Application of H-shaped beam and CFRP wrap in strengthening of a building

Through comprehensive comparison of various reinforcement schemes, the H-shaped steel beam combined with carbon fiber reinforced polymer(CFRP) wrap is the most suitable reinforcement scheme.

Project

A new building is a high-rise frame-shear wall structure with the ground floor and thirteen floors above ground. The main structure of the building has been completed and has entered the stage of renovation and equipment installation. Due to the owner's request to change the layout of the building, some of the original walls were canceled on the third and fourth floors of the building, and new walls were added at other locations.

Reinforcement

For this purpose, additional secondary beams are used to bear the load caused by changes in the layout of the building. At the same time, the load on the original frame beam supporting the newly added secondary beam will also increase, and the mechanical performance of the original floor slab will change. Therefore, the frame beams and cast-in-place floor slabs associated with this need to be strengthened accordingly. After the structural reconstruction and reinforcement are completed, the masonry of the wall, overall decoration, equipment installation, etc. are still required, and the construction period is very tight. In addition, the owner has high requirements on the effective use space of the building, the impact surface of the construction, the durability and appearance of the reinforcement materials. Therefore, through comprehensive comparison of various reinforcement schemes, the H-shaped steel beam combined with carbon fiber reinforced polymer wrap is the most suitable reinforcement scheme.

Conclusion

The duration of the entire project is ten days, which meets the owner's requirements for the duration. When the structural plane changes, the use of steel beams combined with carbon fiber cloth reinforcement can effectively transmit the load of the new wall and floor, and at the same time, it can achieve better benefits. When steel beams and carbon fibers are used in structural plane reconstruction, effective bonding of steel beams and floor slabs, steel beam support nodes, and carbon fiber anchoring are the keys to effective reinforcement.
