Strengthening Bridges with Prestressed CFRP Reinforcement System

Strengthening Bridges with Prestressed CFRP Reinforcement System

Prestressed CFRP Reinforcement System

The bridge structure is arranged with a span of 7 × 20m prefabricated concrete hollow slab, with a total length of 161.6 meters and a total width of 16.5 meters for the bridge deck.

The testing department discovered significant issues while testing this bridge. The main components have significant defects that seriously affect the functionality or load-bearing capacity of the bridge and cannot guarantee normal use. At the same time, based on on-site investigation, it was found that the technical condition of the upper structure of the bridge is poor, with diseases such as shedding and cracking of the hinges, and poor horizontal distribution performance.

After conducting in-depth research on the existing problems of the bridge, the design department decided to use a prestressed CFRP reinforcement system for maintenance and treatment of the bridge in response to its existing diseases and special structure.

The prestressed CFRP reinforcement system, as the best reinforcement solution for the bridge, has opened up traffic construction, shortened the construction period, and completed construction in only 65 days.

After using the prestressed CFRP reinforcement system for maintenance and reinforcement, the load-bearing capacity was significantly improved, and the bridge was restored to its original design load standard.
