Frp Composite Materials Repair And Strengthen Concrete Structures

This principle of passive reinforcement is an innovative alternative to the traditional solution of using glued external metal plates, which allows:

Increase the resistance of damaged structures or structures that are vulnerable to design or implementation defects to extend their service life;
Adapt the structure to changes in its working conditions or increase its carrying capacity.

These technologies allow:

Increase in shear resistance or beam bending;
Reinforce the structure in the case of changing the workload, changing the static system, insufficient reinforcement or insufficient load-bearing capacity or execution error;
Seismic reinforcement of the structure to adapt to changes in standards;
Increase the strength and rigidity of the concrete structure;
The enclosure of fences, pillars or piers;
Reinforce the structure when creating openings or hoppers.

The implementation of this technology requires strict methods and meets suitable climatic conditions (protection from rain, no direct sunlight, external temperature between 10 and 25°C, limited relative humidity, etc.). Use conditions of various materials (resin service life, etc.), safety standards and precautions when preparing substrates.

The surface of the concrete must have sufficient surface cohesion (greater than 1.5 MPa) and suitable flatness, because the characteristics of the concrete composite interface are particularly important for the efficiency and durability of repair.

Specific supports must be precisely prepared in order to:

Produce satisfactory surface roughness;
Make the surface chemically and physically clean and dry;
Remove all traces of scum and dust, grease, oil on all surfaces...
Remove all possible coatings;
There are no defects (cracks, holes, etc.).

The main techniques that can be used are: wet sandblasting or dry sandblasting; washing with water under very high pressure; polishing with a diamond disc.

The product selected and the technical solution to be used depend on:

Size requirements: stress cracking of shear strength, elastic modulus of composite materials, behavioral fatigue, relative to creep under the action of vibration, shock, fire or earthquake...
Requirements related to installation: thermal conditions during bonding, actual service life, part geometry, etc.
Durability requirements are related to environmental conditions (temperature, humidity, ultraviolet light, etc.), structural monitoring, maintenance and use.
