The advantage of strengthening concrete columns with carbon FRP composite materials

First, FRP composite materials reinforced frame column, which is wrapped with carbon fiber cloth, makes the concrete in the state of three direction. Because of the high tensile strength of CFRP and the good bonding performance of CFRP, the CFRP effectively restrained the concrete, resulting in a great improvement in its bearing capacity and ductility. Experiments show that the compressive strength of the defective columns can reach 1.4 times that of the same grade concrete through the effect of CFRP ring hoop.


Second, carbon fiber cloth is a kind of small thickness, light weight, good flexibility, it has characteristic of high fatigue resistance, creep, acid and alkali resistance, high temperature.Therefore to reinforce concrete column can meet the flexural strength and seismic retrofitting requirements, and also will not increase the section of column.


Third, FRP strengthening method has the advantages of no damage to the original structure and easy to install. After reinforcement is completed, the structure will not be put into maintenance cost and long service life.
