The difference between FRP strengthening and bonded steel plate

According to the design of equal strength, the glue dosage of the two schemes is equivalent. The FRP strengthening are much cheaper than the sticky steel plate. The cost of the two schemes is flat when short carbon fiber fabric are taken.

Bonded steel plateCFRP strengthening

Need long-term maintenance

Steel is easy to rust and needs long-term maintenanc

Corrosion resistance, no need for late maintenance

Is it convenient to operate on the spot

The steel plate is heavier, harder and inconvenient to operate in the fiel

Carbon fiber fabric is light weight and convenient for construction

Need to close the traffic

The bonding between steel plate and concrete will take several days to maintain. The disturbance will affect the quality of bonding, so it is necessary to close the traffic

Carbon fiber needs to be applying carbon fiber adhesive only, no need to shut down the traffic

Is there any damage to the original structure

In order to ensure the bonding effect between steel plate and concrete, many bolt connections are needed to increase the workload and damage the original structure

Don't add anything else, no damage to the original structure

Surface treatment

The surface treatment of concrete is relatively high, and the surface of the steel plate also needs to be treated

The surface treatment requirements of concrete are low, and the surface of carbon fibers need not be treated.

CostAccording to the design of equal strength, the glue dosage of the two schemes is equivalent. The carbon fiber fabric are much cheaper than the sticky steel plate. The cost of the two schemes is flat when short carbon fiber fabric are taken.
