China-aided Renovation of the Maldives Ministry of Foreign Affairs Building

The opening ceremony of the Maldives Ministry of Foreign Affairs building renovated with Chinese assistance was held in Male on the 15th. The structural reinforcement materials used are HORSE carbon fiber and crack injection glue.

Xinhua News Agency, Colombo, July 16 (Reporter Tang Lu) News from Male: The opening ceremony of the Maldives Ministry of Foreign Affairs building renovated with Chinese assistance was held in Male on the 15th. Maldives President Saleh, Vice President Faisal Nasim, and Foreign Minister Shahid attended the ceremony.


Saleh thanked the Chinese Embassy in the Maldives and the construction company Shanghai Construction Engineering Group at the opening ceremony. He mentioned that the building of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Maldives was rebuilt with free aid from China in 2005, and China will provide assistance again in 2019 to help renovate the building. Despite the new crown epidemic, the building's renovation project was successfully completed under the impetus of the Chinese Embassy.


Combining the hot climate of Maldives and the close proximity of office buildings to the coastline, the project team proposed a systematic transformation plan focusing on the optimization of functions and performances such as anti-salt spray corrosion, system upgrades and building durability improvements.
